Overview
With this sacred headdress, we acknowledge the vision of Dick Roughsey Goolbalathaldin, and other members of the Aboriginal Arts Board, in gifting this collection to Te Papa.
Roughsey, of Mornington Island, was the first Aboriginal chairman of the board (1973–75). He and the second chairman, Wandjuk Djuakan Marika (1975–79), played leading roles in developing the board’s international strategy of gifting special collections to overseas institutions.
