Overview
In response to the hot African climate, Cardew introduced the idea of pots with screw caps – in this case, to deter ants. Both he and fellow artist Peter Stichbury made them, but it was difficult and time-consuming. Nor were screw caps universally approved: Stichbury wrote to his parents that Bernard Leach ‘absolutely abhors the idea of any sort of pot with a screw top made in clay.'
