Overview

This collaged panel once hung in Wellington’s Evergreen Coffee Lounge in Vivian Street.

It is part of a collection of panels and other items that relate to the life of Chrissy Witoko, the  Evergreen Coffee Lounge, and the communities of people who congregated in the cafés and night clubs around Cuba and Vivian streets between about 1970 – 2002.

Each panel includes a combination of photographs featuring people that Chrissy associated with, news or magazine clippings, business cards and other ephemera.

This collage includes photographs from the late 1980s - 1990s. The clippings refer to a variety of LGBTI businesses and organisations, including GAP (Gay Association of Professionals), which is today Rainbow Wellington, the Sanctuary club for gay and bisexual men (39 Dixon Street), the Bluenote live performance venue (195 Cuba Street), The Glammies - Wellington's LGBTI community awards night, Club Wakefield gay sauna, Express newspaper, a Wellington map of local LGBTI businesses, and New Zealand's first gay rugby team, the Wellington Krazy Knights.

Some of the people featured in this panel are:
Chrissy Witoko, Glenda Hughes, Daniel Fielding, Jacquie Grant, Nikora Manuel, David Waiwatai, Frank 'Frankie' Lund (Toni Rogét), Tehau K, Raewyn, Patt Utiera, Kane Tutemahurangi, Alexis Kennedy, Harold, Renee (Ti Whanawhana), Peter, Des, Andrew and Misty.

Te Papa is working in collaboration with LGBTI communities and individuals to discover the histories represented in the panels.
