Overview
This jewellery box was a treasured object of Alma Reissar (1910-1986), a migrant from Estonia who came to New Zealand in 1949 via Germany as a displaced person after the Second World War (1939-45).
She purchased the box from an Estonian craftsman, also displaced, at the Displaced Persons Camp, Ohinstede, Oldenburg, Germany. The box became a treasured reminder of her five years in the camp, and she kept her special trinkets in it.
