Rodier; manufacturer(s); 1952-53; France
Overview
This flared A-line coat was originally a full length winter coat. According to the donor, the fabric - a high quality blanket cloth - was especially woven for Jacques Faith by Rodier, a French textile manufacturer. The coat is lined with a pale pink silk which is pieced with cream silk strips, echoing the woven pattern in the woven wool fabric.
Paris Says WoolThis coat was sent to the New Zealand Wool Board by the International Wool Secretariat (IWS). The IWS worked closely with the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne to promote fashions in wool. In 1951 they produced a book entitled 'Paris Says Wool', in which French designers such as Jacques Fath extolled the values of wool, and advised women on the 'must haves' for their wardrobes.
