Overview
From 1961 to 1964, students and others marched to Wellington every Easter to present their case for nuclear disarmament to Parliament. They marched in solidarity with British protesters marching at the same time between London and the Atomic Weapons Research Centre in Aldermaston, United Kingdom.
Each year organisers released a pamphlet explaining their purpose, hence 'Why we are marching'. Justification is often a required strategy for protest and resistance movements.
This pamphlet was printed for the march in 1961 from Featherston to Wellington. The pamphlet explains why there is a march, how destructive nuclear weapons are, and what people can do about it. There is also a map with dates and locations for the progress of the march, and printed song lyrics.
