Overview
This plate was produced by Crown Lynn in the 1950s. It is decorated with a bucolic scene featuring a man and woman in lavish eighteenth-century costume. The centre of the plate is cream, and it has a green rim with moulded scrolls and gilt edges. On the back is the unusual 'Coronet' backstamp, used mainly on Crown Lynn's pastel-coloured ware.
Although the design depicts the European countryside, Crown Lynn products were all made in New Zealand. In the 1950s and 1960s the factory turned out millions of pieces of domestic ware every year, producing affordable and robust pieces that appealed to a new generation of post-war homemakers.
