Overview
Brian Brake is looking southeast. By the mid-1950s, Kai Tak airport could barely handle modern aircraft. Hong Kong responded with its "finger runway", opened in 1958 and the world’s first such reclaimed runway. Later, Kowloon Bay was reclaimed for industrial use – as seen here about 1975.
