Overview
This taiaha still retains its original collar decoration, or awe. The collar consists of prepared flax or muka, and the suspended thrums still have partial clusters of dog hair or similar fibres. The proximal end has been intricately carved with traditional elements seen in similar carved weapons. The body of the taiaha is well balanced with a highly polished surface. Probably crafted from maire, or similar native NZ hardwoods.
