Overview
Most of Brake's photographs were taken on Kodachrome, a colour ‘slide’ film that is very resistant to fading. However, this film was not available in the large-format 4 x 5 inch size he mostly used to photograph the ancient Egypt series. All his shots on this film have now faded, even though they were always kept in darkness. This photographhas been digitally retouched to approximate how the colours might have looked on the film when the image was made.
