Overview
These rimu armchairs (see also PF000082) were made by Robert Craig in about 1845. They share certain similarities with Scottish regional chairs, although Craig was not a cabinetmaker and some of the techniques used are quite unconventional.
The chairs sat in the family home in Little Pipitea Street, Wellington, for more than 100 years, and were donated to the Dominion Museum by a member of the family in 1962.
