Overview
English longcase or "Grandfather" clock, made by Thomas Windmills about 1720. The clock case is walnut veneer on oak, crossbanded, with fine inlay on the pedestal and door, domed hood door and glass reflecting the fine hooded cornice moulding. The columns on each side of the hood have brass mounts and the case has brass hinges and escutcheons. The clock has a brass dial, inscribed 'Windmills London' with cast brass ornaments in the spandrels, and silvered chapter rings. The clock has a seconds hand and also shows the day of the month; it also strikes the hours and chimes the quarters.
