Day dress (bodice and skirt)

A two piece hand sewn, golden brown silk dress featuring a square pattern.The fitted lined bodice is front fastened with 11 silver meta; buttons and hand stitched buttonholes. The bodice has a pointed front waistline finished in self fabric piping and the back is finished with a deep triple tailed basque. The neckline is high,. front and back, the sleeves are full length, piped into the armhole of the dropped shoulder line and at the writer there is piping and a placket opening. The top of the sleeve has a short over-sleeve or cap finished with self fabric ruching.

The lined skirt is bell shaped in front and slightly deeper at the back. It is made of eight panels each 51 cm wide. The skirt is fitted on to the waistband in box pleats. The hem line is finished with a narrow woolen dust braid. The skirt is lined with worn brown glazed cotton.
