Evening gown

This silk satin evening gown features a "A la Sevigne" neckline and a tight fitting bodice thst ends in a deep V shape. The neckline has a cream Buckinghamshire lace edging and it has a narrow pink satin ribbon inserted through it. The bodice is supported in the front by three tape covered whalebones: one up the centre seam, one up each dart and one up each side seam. The bodice fastens with brass hooks and eyes at the centre back. The double short sleeves are trimmed with braid from the gown material and edged with cream Buckinghamshire lace, without the ribbon insertion. The sleeves are also decorated with a bow of pink and white striped silk ribbon with falling tails. The full round skirt is gathered and has four millimetre cartridge pleats which are tie-stitched on the inside. A cord has been couched down to keep the pleats in place. The bodice, sleeves and skirt are lined with fine white cotton, and the skirt has a second lining of stiffened cotton 21cm down from the waist.
