Bench file

This bench file, by an unknown maker, was formerly owned by Henry J. Freeman, a jeweller and watchmaker in Wellington in the late nineteenth century. It is a narrow, square-shaped, tapered metal file. There are noticeable patches of rust. There are no inscriptions. Files like this one were used to smooth away rough and sharp edges and other imperfections.
