Bench file

This bench file, by an unknown maker, was formerly owned by Henry J. Freeman, a jeweller and watchmaker in Wellington in the late nineteenth century. It is a triangular-shaped metal file, tapered at the end, with a square handle. The file is inscribed with the number '3'. Files like this one were used to smooth away rough and sharp edges and other imperfections.
