Overview
This large, cream damask table napkin features three scenes associated with hunting, a popular subject matter for table linen in the 18th century.
The scenes, which are mirrored, include:
Top: a large country house flanked by dogs, and set amongst a scene of trees, birds and animals
Middle: a hunter on foot blowing a horn and leading a dog
Middle: large floral design
Bottom: a horse and rider, who holds a hunting falcon on his wrist.
The napkin is woven with a chequer-board border at the true left edge followed by a second border featuring a vine and birds. It is hemmed at top and bottom, with selvedges at the sides.
