Overview
Johannes Brauer was born in the east German town of Meerane in 1905. After working as a locksmith and engineer, he studied graphic art and book production through evening classes in Leipzig. Brauer began to exhibit his work in the 1930s, while working as an engineer. After the end of the Second World War, he worked as an artist in the DDR (Deutsche Demokratische Republik). In the 1960s Brauer had a number of exhibitions of his prints. His work was collected by museums across the DDR, and internationally.
