Overview
Dullabh Parbhu was born in 1912 in Amri, Kasabh, Navsari District, Gujarat State, India. He arrived in Auckland in 1926 via Fiji where he lived from 1924-26.
He had a shoe repair shop in Hobson St, Auckland, then in Ponsonby. He moved to Ngaruawahia then finally to Wellington in the 1930s, setting up his business in Webb St, Te Aro. He first lived in Adelaide Road, Newtown, and in Thompson Street, Te Aro.
His brothers Khandu Dullabh Parbhy and Chottu Dullabh Parbhu (both deceased) followed him to Wellington.
Dullabh married Jeliben (nee Merchant) in 1915 (it was a child marriage). She was born in 1912 in Ander, Maroli, Navsari District, Gujarat State, and died in Wellington.
Their children included five sons: Amrat, Ishver, Babu, Kanti, Ramesh, and three daughters: Kamala, Suzie and Sharda (who live in Wellington except for Kanti who lives in Auckland).
Dullabh died in 1967 in South Africa while travelling to visit his wife's family. His body was returned to Wellington for the funeral.
