Overview

Known as a korowai (tag cloak), it is distinctive because of the woolen pompoms at the end of the tassels instead of muka tassels. The similarity between a korowai, kārure and ngore is the used of decorative hukahuka tassels however a korowai has free flowing long tassels, a kārure has hukahuka tassels that appear to be unravelling and a ngore has pompoms.

This unique korowai was part of the Beetham Collection of which Hugh Beetham of Brancepth Station in the Wairarapa was an avid collector and reader.
