Overview
Bone Stone Shell: Michael Couper
In making these works for Bone Stone Shell, Michael Couper counteracted the natural curves of his materials by fashioning long, boldly angled pieces. The necklaces make little if any reference to traditional shapes but instead feel very contemporary, even today.
Couper initially trained at Lapis Lazuli, a jewellery school established in Auckland in 1975. A member of Fingers collective since 1977, he continues to be a regular exhibiting member.
