Overview
Pictorialists such as George Chance were influenced by Japanese prints, with their strong graphic qualities and simplified picture elements. Here Mt Egmont/Taranaki recalls Japan's Mt Fuji, and the wind-shaped trees resemble those often seen in Japanese art. It may be no coincidence that Chance had in fact spent time in Japan.
