Overview
This polishing hammer comes from a collection of silversmithing tools used in New Zealand in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Hammers like this were used along the surfaces of bowls and metal objects to smooth and curve the surfaces. This was done by gently tapping the smooth, flat side of the hammer on the surface of the metal to cause it to curve.
