Overview
This brooch, which can also be worn as a pendent, was made by William McBride, a watchmaker, jeweller and engraver who was based in Timaru.
The brooch features two kea beaks which have been mounted in gold to great a crescent form. The gold mounts are been engraved with flowers and leaves. The reverse features the maker's mark 'W. McBride'. The pin is stainless steel.
Brooches made from huia, kiwi and kea beaks were particularly popular inthe late 19th century and early 20th century.
