Overview
This banner was displayed at a conference held by the Alliance of Labour in Wellington, 9 - 12 November 1920. The aim of the conference was to promote 'the adoption of a more efficient method of industrially organising the wage-earners of New Zealand.'
The banner was displayed at the conference, it was described in the 'Dominion' newspaper of 10 November 1920 as 'a chart showing the method of organisation proposed by the Alliance of Labour. This demonstrated that each section of the industrial workers of the Dominion would be grouped into various departments, and it was explained that each section would have the fullest amount possible of local autonomy.'
The Alliance of Labour advocated industrial unionism, class war and direct action. Its constitution stated that 'One Big Union', representing all union members in the country, would overthrow capitalism in New Zealand and introduce a socialist society.
