Overview
This badge was made by Danna Glendining's company Affirmative Action Limited when she worked in the State Services Commission's Equal Employment Opportunities Unit.
Disability activism and pride grew out of the activist movements in the 1960s and 70s, including feminism, gay rights, and the civil rights movement. In the 1970s, the growing international disability rights movement challenged the medical model of disability and developed a social model whereby society's attitudes disable people.
This badge flips the narrative by reminding people that disability and impairment can affect people at any time or age.
