Overview
This poster by David Blair visualises the catastrophic risks to peace posed by the nuclear-armed Trident missile. In his image, a dove of peace is fatally pierced as a missile launches towards the sky.
The Trident is a submarine-launched ballistic missile. The first Trident was launched by the United States Navy in 1977, and adopted by Britain in the 1990s. Both programmes were met with sustained protests by the anti-nuclear movement.
Blair was part of Auckland Artists Action which began as Artists Against Apartheid during the Springbok rugby tour in 1981. The 'AAA' logo bottom right of the poster, was designed by Stanley Palmer during the tour.
