Overview
This poster advertising Christchurch as a tourist destination in the 1930s is now a poignant reminder of what has been lost in the Canterbury earthquakes of 2010-11.
The poster encouraged visitors to see the South Island and enjoy its natural wonders through the civilised gateway of Christchurch. Genteel pursuits (walking, boating) take place around a very English looking river, framed by colonades and backgrounded by the signs of civilisation (for example the spire of Christchurch Cathedral).
