Overview
Ko te rangi, ko te whenua, ko au te tangata whenua was made by Nikau Hindin in 2022 for the Japan Aichi Triennial.
This piece is the largest piece of aute (bark cloth) produced by Nikau to date sourced from the bark of Aute trees grown in Aotearoa/New Zealand. Nikau considerd the quality of the cloth the highest she has produced to date, and it is the cumulation of years of care and research into growing aute home in Aotearoa.
This piece was displayed in the threshold gallery during the ‘Toi Tuku Iho: Aute’ programme held at Te Papa Tongarewa at the official launch of the Matariki National holiday in 2022 as part of the Matariki Celebrations.
