Overview
When the moon sees the sun was inspired by the death of Jeremy Leatinu‘u’s koroua (grandfather). The artwork journeys through landscapes connected to Leatinu‘u’s koroua, exploring relationships between people, whakapapa (ancestry), and whenua (land).
The work follows the structure of a waiata (song) originally composed by the artist in te reo Māori. Each verse is written from the perspective of a different member of his whānau (family).
