Overview
This brass badge features an image of Mahatma Gandhi and the flag of the Provisional Government of Free India from 1931 (which was replaced by the official flag of independent India in July 1947). The flag features the charkha, spinning wheel, which symbolised Gandhi’s programme of self-sufficiency and interdependence in the fight against colonial rule. The badge also features the beginning of the poem and national song Vande Mataram in Devanagari script: ‘Mother, I bow to thee’.
