Overview
This Rainbow Ribbon was made by volunteers for RainbowYOUTH to raise funds and awareness, and to celebrate LGBTQI+ Pride.
This particular ribbon was sold by ASB (Auckland Savings Bank) to raise money for RainbowYOUTH during Pride Week in Wellington in February 2018.
ASB partnered with RainbowYOUTH (RY) in 2014. RY is a charity that supports queer, gender diverse, takatāpui, intersex youth and the wider rainbow community to ensure Aotearoa New Zealand is a safe place where young people can thrive.
The ribbon allies with the Rainbow flag designed by artist and gay rights activist Gilbert Baker in San Francisco in 1978. Since then, the rainbow has become a worldwide symbol of LGBTQI+ pride. The colours mean red for life, orange for healing, yellow for sunlight, green for nature, blue for magic/art, purple for spirit.
