Overview
A well made hoe (paddle) with a finely carved ancestral figure on the upper part of the paddle blade. The figure, which is female, is carved in the Taranaki style, which is indicated by the peaked head, a symbolic representation of Mount Taranaki. The fact that this hoe is carved suggests that it belonged to a person of rank.
