Overview
The Darlington Statement was published in March 2017 and is a joint statement by Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand intersex community organisations and independent advocates. It sets out the priorities and calls by the intersex human rights movement in both countries, including human rights and legal reform, health and wellbeing, peer support, allies, education, awareness and employment.
This cover features the intersex symbol which was designed as an international flag in 2013 by Morgan Carpenter of Intersex Human Rights Australia. Both yellow and purple are considered neutral in terms of gender. The purple ring is about being unbroken, whole and complete, and symbolises the right to make decisions about one’s own body.
The cover also includes New Zealand intersex educator and counsellor Mani Bruce Mitchell (MNZM) (third from the left, front row).
