Overview
Signs like this one are a welcome sight for trampers.
This sign was made for Anderson Memorial Hut on Mount Crawford in the Tararua Range in the North Island, New Zealand.
It was the first high level hut to be air-dropped in New Zealand. In 1946, pilot Oliver Anderson flew all the materials and pre-fabricated panels to the site where they were dropped by parachute. He was killed a few months later while flying in Fiordland. The new hut was named in his honour.
Tararua Tramping Museum Trust
