Overview
This lanyard and name tag was worn by Bella Simpson at the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA) World Conference held in Bangkok, Thailand, 28 November to 2 December 2016.
Bella (born 1996) is a young trans woman who came out socially as a transgender girl when she was 11 years old, and began a public life as a trans advocate when she was 12.
On her first international trip, she travelled with a party from New Zealand to Bangkok, Thailand, in 2016, to find out whether they could bring the conference to New Zealand.
Bella is very proud of helping to bring the ILGA World Conference to Wellington, New Zealand in 2018. It ‘put New Zealand on the map for LGBT rights’ (Simpson 2019).
