Overview
This Waddington puzzle, produced under licence by Holdson NZ, depicts television character Joe McClaine sitting at the controls of the BIG RAT machine. Joe was the titular character of Joe 90, a British science-fiction television series that first aired in the late 1960s. The show was created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson and used the same ‘Supermarionation’ puppetry as their earlier shows, such as Thunderbirds.
Merchandising was an important part of Joe 90's success and longevity. A range of toys and puzzles were available in New Zealand, and companies such as Tip Top and Sweetacres used Joe 90 in advertising.
