Overview
This medal celebrates a tug of war competition run by the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in Wellington on 3 October 1914, which was won by the 13th Regiment team. This particular medal was given to Sergeant (later Captain) Thomas Wyville Leonard Rutherfurd (1890-1918), who was known to family and friends as Wyville.
This medal was amongst a group of personal effects cared for by his fiancé, Dorothy Broad. They are now held in Te Papa's collections.
