Overview
Half length portrait of Maori chief Ihaka Whaanga as an older man. He has ta moko (facial tattoo), and receding white hair with side whiskers. He is holding a wooden edged weapon diagonally across his body, and wearing two cloaks. The top cloak is a kaitaka (cloak with a plain body) folded so that the taniko (weft-twined) border runs diagonally across his body. The cloak below that is a korowai (cloak adorned with hukahuka, or black tags).
