Overview

This poster advertises a safer sex message aimed at Pacific gender minority communities, including gay men and fa'afafine. It draws upon the power and guidance of ancestral knowledge, playing on meanings of navigation in particular.

Between 1995 and 2005 deaths from AIDS peaked in New Zealand and then fell sharply as new HIV treatments became available. The New Zealand AIDS Foundation continued to run education campaigns such as this poster, targeting vulnerable and high risk groups of people.
