Harwyn Potteries; painter; 1946 / 1948; New Zealand
Overview
This slip cast vase was produced by Crown Lynn, and decorated by Arthur and Alice Partridge. The Patridges's were commissioned to decorate Amalgamated Brick and Pipe Company (Ambrico) and later Crown Lynn blanks, by S. F Harris, a wholesaler connected to Ambrico's 'specials' department. It was Harris who came up with the name Harwyn Pottery, which is a combination of his own name with that of his financial partner, Gladys Wynard.
The base of the vase is impressed with the number '98.' Ambrico / Crown Lynn introduced a system of impressed numbers for each shape in 1946. The vase would have originally also featured a 'Harwyn Potteries' stick-on label.
