Overview
This football uniform belonged to Luca Gibbon who wore the uniform when playing for Eastern Suburbs AFC in Auckland. Luca greatly enjoys football, something that is encouraged by his mother and father. His twin sister Sasha is his biggest fan.
When Luca first started playing football he wasn't very keen and lacked confidence so his mother gave him $5 for every goal he scored - Luca soon became a regular goal scorer, an incentive that soon became too expensive to continue. Luckily by then Luca was hooked.
The uniform is part of a group of objects collected to represent some of the key moments and everyday life of six year old Luca, who is a participant in Te Papa's Collecting Childhood project. This is an ongoing project that includes children in the University of Auckland's Growing Up in New Zealand research.
