Overview
This plastic money box was made by the Bank of New South Wales (now Westpac) soon after New Zealand trading banks gained governmental approval in October 1964 to each have their own private savings banks.
Money boxes like this example were given to customers, often children, to encourage saving. This one is in the shape of Donald Duck, a beloved Disney character who first appeared in 1934. His likeness has appeared internationally on a wide range of merchandise.
