Overview
This 'Indian' dress-up costume was made for a school play performed in 1942. The 'V' on the back stands for victory and was one of the ways people boosted morale during the war years.
The costume was homemade by 9 year old Dawn's mother. She spent a great deal of time over the costume, hand-stitching on buttons, dyed feathers and colourful thread.
The costume is representative of America wild western genre games, films, toys and stories in which 'Cowboys and Indians' fought each other in dramatic fictional battles.
