Child's writing book

This book with pictures and printed text, showcases Arya Naidu's first stage in learning to write since starting school in 2014.

Books like this are a feature in many classrooms throughout New Zealand. The aim is to gradually build the student's accuracy, fluency and ability to create meaningful text by using a combination of picture and hand-written story. The teacher’s positive guiding influence in the form of ticks and smiley faces, stickers and comments can be seen throughout the book, alongside corrections to spelling and letter formation.

Arya is a participant in Te Papa’s Collecting Childhood project and Auckland University’s Growing Up in New Zealand study. As part of this project Arya and other children share their daily lives with us and donate items that represent key moments or the things they like doing.
