Overview
This fishing lure is from the Solomon Islands. Its composite construction consists of a shank made from pearl shell and a turtle shell point. The shank is attached to the point with fibre lashings. The hackle is also made from fibre.
Distribution and use
This type of fishing lure appears across the Pacific region in various forms and requires no bait. Fishermen attach it to lines and troll it behind their canoes. Its movement in the water and the light reflecting off its surface attracts larger surface feeding fish to strike at it as if it were a small fish.
