Overview
This poster advertised the first event of the Aroha Festival in 2010: Mika & Pō with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. Performance artists Mika and Gareth Farr created a 'tribal pop opera' with extravagent outfits (Mazer 2018, 212). In this poster, Mika wears an emerald green Issey Miyake garment.
The Aroha Festival was a week long event organised in Auckland by performance artist Mika to celebrate Takatāpui diversity. He was awarded $30,000 from Te Waka Toi / Creative New Zealand to hold the festival from 12-20 March 2010. It was positioned as a possible replacement for the Hero Parade which had been last held in 2001. In 2013, the Hero Parade was reinstated.
