Overview
This poster was created by members the Wellington Media Collective to celebrate (rather than to advertise) the second Marxian Political Conference in 1979.
The image taps into the archetypal rural New Zealand male with his singlet, shorts and gumboots and dog beside him - best personified at the time and since by the comedic character of Fred Dagg. In this image he appears as the philosopher Karl Marx, which perfectly illustrated the conference's aim to develop a New Zealand framework of left-wing political analysis.
