Overview
This poster was designed by cartoonist and illustrator Trace Hodgson for Greenpeace a month after the French bombing and sinking of its protest ship Rainbow Warrior in July 1985.
The Rainbow Warrior was moored in Auckland when two bombs ripped through it. The ship’s photographer died retrieving his camera. The crew had been preparing to set sail for Moruroa to protest against French nuclear weapon testing.
The poster was screenprinted by Chris McBride and Dave Kent of Wellington Media Collective in an edition of 500. Dave Kent's expertise with technique, colour and composition enhanced the original illustration.
