Overview
This poster was used to advertise 'Dancing The Gay Fandango' a show that Paul Jenden choreographed and danced in with Louis Solino in 1993. Shown on this poster is Leanne Plunket and Leonie Kaywood, who danced the female version of the show.
The dance was performed as a series of four duet dances that reflected on gay men and lesbian relationships. Both the male and female couples danced exactly the same material on alternate nights.
In a review of the show by Jan Bolwell in 1993 she reported that ‘gender issues inevitably arise for the audience as you watch the varying way men and women express the same choreographic material, and set up a completely different dynamic on stage.'
The dances were performed in Wellington at part of the 1993 Fringe Festival and later in Auckland.
